Ecuador brief History

Lets be honest, if you wanted to know Ecuador's history you would be in wikipedia right now! but in case you don't wan't to leave our beautiful website, here are some facts.

There are traces of life in this region dating up to 10000 BC and around 3000 BC there were already few agricultural-based civilizations, which made some of the continent’s oldest known pottery.

Three cultures that lived in what today is Ecuador, resisted the Incan Empire Invasions for a while, but not long before Spanish Colonization, the Incas conquered this land and imposed their language, Kichwa (official language).

The country was founded by the Spaniards in 1532; period in which the Incan Empire was struggling due to wars between its leaders.

For almost 300 years it was ruled from Peru and later on from Colombia by Spanish governors, who brought along their architecture, religion, and language. This period ended in 1822, when independence was reached.
The mind behind the Independence was Simon Bolivar, who united Ecuador to Colombia, Panama and Venezuela, to form The Gran Colombia. This great nation only lasted for 8 years as local interests affected the union, and the Liberator’s dreams vanished.

After this Ecuador became a Republic and has remained since, although it has faced some economical and political difficulties that have stagnated development. Dictatorships and many coup d’ état have been part of Ecuador’s recent history that is still struggling to stabilize its economy.
