Quito city tour, equatorial line, and cable car
Proclaimed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site, the old city of Quito is full
of history: spacious plazas, old streets where you feel as if you have been transported
back to the 16th century, monuments, statues, landmark churches, and colonial
architecture.
Departure is from your hotel in order to visit the colonial Quito attractions such as The
Cathedral, the Main Square Plaza de La Independencia, La Compañía Church, San
Francisco Church and square, and El Panecillo hill from where the Virgen de Quito will
share with you a magnificent view of colonial Quito.
Via teleferico or cable car, you will quickly ascend up to 13,600’ to Cruz Loma. From
there you will marvel at the spectacular sight of Quito laid out in front of you. If the
weather is sufficiently clear, you can enjoy an amazing view of the Avenue of the
Volcanoes.
From Quito, we will travel northwest to reach the Monument of the Equator, located at
Latitude 0°. Here at the Mitad del Mundo you can straddle the equator, one foot on each
hemisphere. Inside the monument, there is an ethnic museum where you will find
beautiful examples of various cultural groups in Ecuador; their customs, celebrations
and way of life. The ethnographic museum visit is included.
