Adventure and nature lovers today have an innovate option to satisfy their desire for adrenaline and recreation in Cuenca. It’s “Cuenca: cables and ropes,” which received first prize in the alternative tourist contest organized by the Municipal Tourist Foundation of Cuenca.
The project “Cuenca: cables and ropes” merges rock climbing, canopy and canyoneering in one single tourist package that can last between one or several days in places close to Cuenca.

DAY 1: ROCK CLIMBING HALF DAY + CANOPY HALF DAY

DAY 2 CANYONEERING FULL DAY

The tour begins at 9 a.m. The tourists are picked up at their hotels and go to the area of Río Amarillo where they do Canyoneering. This consists of going down a river’s bed, generally of high velocity, through obstacles that water erosion has formed, such as cascades, areas that jut out, accumulation of fallen blocks or narrow passageways.
To practice this mountain sport it is necessary to know climbing and spelunking techniques and to have a good physical condition. This allows you to better enjoy the movement through a river’s canyons and ravines.
Security equipment is essential: neoprene suit, helmets, ameses, and ropes.
There are several ways to overcome obstacles: to walk on the banks or dry blocks, move through water when its depth is less than a meter, swim to negotiate water movements, dive to pass siphons, walk through gaveras, climb and descent cliffs using techniques such as rapel. Box lunch.
