Day 1: QUITO – RELECHE
Departure is early from your hotel in Quito via the southbound Panamerican Highway. Passing through the towns of Latacunga, Ambato and Baños, we will arrive at the Hacienda Releche which is the starting point of the trail. A relaxing dinner and the night will be spent at the hacienda.
Day 2: RELECHE - CAMP
After an early breakfast, we will meet with our Indian team and their mules. The Altar camp is then a 4 to 5 hour climb passing through the Collanes Valley where we will spend the night in tents.
Day 3: CAMP - LAGUNA AMARILLA – CAMP
Another 4 to 5 hour hike will bring us to the Laguna Amarilla, enjoying wonderful views of the well defined summits
of Altar and its gothic glaciers. Before nightfall we will trek back and spend the night at camp. By this time you will have an appreciation of why the Incas called this mountain Capac Urcu, meaning sublime mountain.
Day 4: CAMP - RELECHE – QUITO
We will break camp and trek down Altar Mountain to Releche where our vehicle and driver awaits. From there we will drive back to your hotel in Quito.
